Kids write the darndest things....

So our story this week was ALL about the life cycle of the Spadefoot toad (the toad receiving it's name because of it's spade shaped feet). Well, one of the questions on the weekly selection test was, "How do the  spadefoot toads get their names?"

I'll let this little nugget's answer explain for me :)

Some Sensational Spelling Stuff

Ok, I really couldn't help the alliteration. This week I was introduced to this great new (to me) website. It's called....

*drumroll please*

Spelling City!

Here's the link:

Registration is free and once you register, you can actually save your list and have your kids practice with it. There is a premium version with more games, but I find that my students do just fine with the free version. You (yes, you) should go check it out because it's got some great ways to practice those spelling words. The kiddos love it, and it's another great option for word work time if your school has the capabilities :)

New Funsies!

My newest, most current obsession is the wonder that is Scrappin' Doodles and Print Candee....looovvveee me some print candee.

I get so much honest to goodness JOY out of downloading new borders and clip art. Seriously, I ride the fine line between easily amused and just-plain-sad.

Oh well! At least all of the assignments I make now are so cute I wanna hurl all over 'em...but then I'd destroy all that adorableness I just created, so I pass them out to the kiddos instead :)

Maybe that fourth cup of coffee this afternoon was too much...

To Honor a Friend

Shaun Wild was a fantastic educator who was lost. It breaks my heart to think of all the little students who will not have him as a teacher, as well as those who had him taken away much too soon.

Penny Wars and a Last Day

The Penny Wars have begun!! We've had penny wars* going on for the past few days in our school in effort to raise money for cancer. A very noble cause, and a great way to get the kids motivated! And "motivated" they have been...although most of the said "motivation" has come from wanting to get pennies into the other classroom jars....but, hey, all's well that ends well! hah

Anyway, the penny wars have left my kiddos absolutely LOONY in the morning. Usually they come into the classroom and get right to business! However, now that the penny wars have started it is MASS. CHAOS. And there is nooo stopping it. In all honesty, though, they're excited for something that is an awesome cause--so I really don't mind :)

On another note, today is the last day of one of my littles. She is moving :( I've never lost a student before and let me tell you if I don't shed a few tears after she leaves it'll be miraculous. Her new school is lucky to have such a sweet kiddo.

Happy Friday to all! Have a mondo fabulous weekend!

*For anyone who doesn't know how penny wars work, the goal is to fill your bucket with silver coins, and put pennies into other people's buckets to take away points from them. Super fun :)
